Reading for Context and Perspective

Reading for Context and Perspective  In preparation for retreats, we select readings that contextualize our planned engagement with community members.  Memoirs, travel narratives, and historical novels are valuable for fostering intercultural mindfulness. As we read narratives different from our own, we step into another’s perspective and experience their reality. We can imagine how their life experiences have shaped them. This perspective taking can inform our efforts to interact with people who are from the cultures depicted in these works.
