We gather to share our intercultural journeys, to advance our well-being and creative expression, and to support each other in facilitating intercultural engagement in our diverse families and communities.
Global — A mindset, a frame, an aspiration
- A mindset for approaching relationships and for understanding systemic challenges.
- A frame that is both local and international. People in our local communities have deep international connections that they draw upon which brings the global home to our families.
- An aspiration that our consciousness raising and bridge building can radiate out (literally go global) through our connections to touch people around the world
Intercultural Circle — A process, a pedagogy, and a way of life.
- By extending invitations to others to share their stories, we involve ourselves in a process of catching their stories and of being changed by them.
- “Inter”-cultural by definition is about communication, movement, and relations between cultures. It is also about recognizing and nurturing within ourselves the capacity to be of and move between diverse cultures with less discomfort and conflict.
- Creating a circle is about setting up a spiritual space for the members to come back to regularly with their questions and for affirmation as they plunge further into their intercultural engagement.
- The monthlysessions and annual retreat draw upon diverse reflective and experiential pedagogies to deepen our personal understanding, attitudes and skills for effective intercultural engagement.
- Through our sessions we acquire leadership skills, training techniques, and creative approaches that we can apply in the diverse contexts where we work and live to facilitate other intercultural discovery and growth.
- We are on a continuous journey of discovering together what it means to conceive of ourselves as intercultural beings, to adapt a way of life that is intentionally intercultural, and to serve as leaders in facilitating global intercultural learning in our families, our neighborhoods and broader communities.
